Hair color maintenance can be a tricky devil when it comes to your day to day routines, but with a few tips we can help you maintain your color’s brilliance without throwing off your whole day!

After coloring, wait a full 72 hours before shampooing to help your color stay. Much like getting a perm, waiting two days after your color service can help your color last longer.

Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner because these shampoos have less stripping additives, surfactants, that can strip your hair of natural oils and non-natural colors/dyes.

Add color to your conditioner. At The Root Salon we have color additives for your shampoos or conditioners that can help maintain your color’s brightness or tone between services.

For your shampoo, use cool water. Before wetting the hair for your shampoo, be sure to turn down the water temperature when shampooing. Cooler water temperature keeps the cuticle of the hair shaft closed and your color intact.

Wash hair less often. Less washing can help natural sebum loss which also causes the dulling of your color.

On off days, use dry shampoo to help maintain those bright blondes and keep from dark colors fading.

Use leave-in treatments to protect hair color when styling because leave-in conditioners or pre-stylers can help keep your color bright when using hot tools or even right before your next salon visit.
