New Year’s Resolutions and Predictions (Part 2)

By January 17, 2014April 19th, 2022No Comments

Hello again!

You read all about The Root Salon Team’s New Year’s resolutions and predictions last week. Now it’s time for the second part of this quick series where the rest of our team members chime in with their 2014 aspirations and fun predictions for hair and beauty.

Forest Urken, Senior Stylist/Colorist:
Our Forest loves her books! “I have decided that 2014 will be the year I try to read as many of the ‘classics’ as I can. I am a big reader, I usually can read about a book a week. I have read a few of the books that are considered ‘must reads’, but I want to try to concentrate on those books this year (not including the books I have to read for my book-club). I also want to try and do yoga more often. I love it and I always feel so great after a good practice, I just need to do it more often.”

What does Forest predict we will be seeing in hair trends this year? “As far as trends in hair go, I think the short cut is back. With so many celebrities chopping off their locks last year I think we’ll see that trend finally trickle down to us normal people. I’ve rocked the pixie cut before and I loved it!”

Jillian Jorgensen, Assistant/Junior stylist:
Jillian is one busy lady. She works two jobs. One here at the salon (her job includes keeping tabs on our insanely busy team leader), and then she moonlights at a restaurant to make ends meet while she begins to build a clientele. “I’m a busy body by nature so that I cannot change, however, I’d like to be a little more mindful of myself and respecting my own boundaries. Keeping that in check will only benefit myself and those around me. Cheers to 2014!”

Jillian is so excited about statement brows for the New Year! “On almost every runway and in all the magazines, there is a big trend that I have noticed and am particularly fond of…big, bold eyebrows!! Today, its all about Cara Delevingne’s brows. The modern day bold brow, like Cara’s, is a well-groomed, manicured take on the full-brow look. To help achieve bold brows use products like brow gels, powders, pencils, even growth serums (similar to Latisse). Bold brows can make you look younger, healthier and often reduces the need for other face makeup. I think bold brows will be big in 2014!”

Laurie McClimon, Junior Stylist/Colorist:
This fantastic new addition to our team has a “30 before 30” list! What a clever idea, Laurie. “I’m a busy working single mother but that does not mean that I want to short-change my life experiences. I feel like I am a better mom when I make sure I take care to achieve my personal happiness as well as my son’s. Some time ago I created a personal list of things I want to experience and accomplish before I turn thirty. Sadly, I have only gotten to a handful of the things on the list. For 2014, I’m going to make a big effort to scratch some more off my list — like taking a ride in a helicopter.”

As far as beauty and fashion trends, Laurie seems to think that all those ladies that went super short last year are going to start growing their locks out to mid-length styles. Laurie also sees mid-drift tops coming back into style again. But she is quick to add, “I think I’ll skip this trend.”

Additional Apple education is on Lauren Hart's to-do list for 2014.

Lauren Hart, Owner/Master Colorist:
Our team leader works her tail off! We had a hard time getting her to stand still enough to answer our questions for this blog. She loves using technology to push the salon’s success forward. “I bought a new computer this year. I bought the one to one classes at the Apple Store and I have still have not activated the account to take the classes. I would like to shoot for at least two classes per month.”

Lauren says she’s a colorist through and through so she predicts much softer blondes than the past years’ of ombre. She thinks clients will be asking for the more natural effect of balayage.

There you have it! We can’t wait to start on our resolutions and see which predictions come true.

Happy 2014, everyone![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
