With summer quickly approaching and the heat already here, you may notice your skin start to change with the season. This is totally normal but we must adapt our habits in order to protect our skin! Here are some tips and tricks to help out your skin this summer:

The number 1 rule in skincare: SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN!!! This should be used year round but especially in summer! Not only does sunscreen protect against skin cancer but it also helps to prevent aging. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends SPF 30 for day to day activity and SPF 50 for outdoor activity. Replace this with your daytime moisturizer.

Hyaluronic Acid- this miracle ingredient helps to hydrate your skin by pulling in water from the environment. Everyone’s skin could always use a little more hydration but especially during our dry, Arizona summers.

Hats- Sometimes sunscreen just isn’t enough and you need to bring in backup. Wearing a hat is a simple and easy way to protect your skin from the sun. Whether you’re by the pool or just running errands, extra sun protection can never hurt! Don’t forget that your styled hair can look super cute in a hat too!

Antioxidants- we know these are good, but just how good? Whether they’re in your diet or skincare products, antioxidants help fight damage that the sun has caused to the body. Some antioxidant rich foods include blueberries, strawberries, pecans and, my favorite, DARK CHOCOLATE!

WATER- Simple, right? Not only should we be drinking water to stay healthy but it also has so many benefits to our skin. It smooths fine lines and wrinkles by keeping our skin plump and it also helps to eliminate dark circles. The summer sun will evaporate our body’s water much faster than usual so up your water intake.
