We are trying so hard not to complain about the heat but, man, is it rough!
Especially if you’re the kind of person who likes to exercise, the summer can spoil all your fitness plans. Who wants to invite more sweat into your life when its 110 out? There are always air-conditioned gyms, of course, but for many of us, there’s nothing like hiking up Piestewa Peak or running on the Bridal Path along Central Avenue in the fresh air.
Plus, those activities are FREE!
Some opt to just hike or run at night during the summer and that’s great if you are willing to take the risk of falling on the trail or getting attacked on the streets. Personally, I’d rather just wait out the heat.
One way I’ve been able to keep at least some level of fitness is to work out at home. If you have some floor space, 20 minutes, and an internet connection, you can coast through the hot months with workout videos via YouTube. My favorites are Yoga with Adriene and Fitness Blender.
Yoga with Adriene is best for people with some basic yoga experience since she can’t exactly pop out of the screen and adjust you. But, she does an incredible job of explaining each pose and works at a manageable pace. She has a huge variety of yoga videos catered to every scenario you can think of (back pain, neck pain, weight loss, and even one for skaters!). She also has a real charming personality that comes across great on screen.
Fitness Blender has a huge variety of home workouts that mix traditional cardio with pilates, yoga, and weight training. And, for many of their videos, they rely on good ‘ol standards like jumping jacks and push ups. You can do ten minutes or two hours; with equipment or no; the possibilities are vast!
And, just like hiking or running, these activities are FREE!
So to all our clients and readers who are desperate for a cheap workout but can’t hang with the heat, try these!
