Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Fall Gardening in Phoenix

By October 31, 2017No Comments

Have you seen the weather forecast? We finally have a cool down and I, for one, am ready to garden, garden, garden!

Fall gardening!

My favorite gardening client is back in the valley after summering in Flagstaff. I’m so happy because she and I share gardening stories every three weeks. This year in my new home I have had some seriously strange experiences with shade gardening which, as a native Phoenician, I have NEVER had to attempt before.

But, with a shaded and north facing entryway I have had a tremendous opportunity to learn. I am having great luck with beautiful dragon’s winged begonias and New Guinea impatiants. I also have some very pretty red cyclamen. My new favorite shrub that flowers even in the shade is a compact ixora.

In my sunnier areas I am using some red tango geraniums and have combined them with dark salmon geraniums, yellow snap dragons and orange and yellow pansies.

Now that I’ve got the scenery handled, I am so looking forward to sipping wine by my gardens and cooking outside while I enjoy my colorful fall view!
