Can you see yourself in this space? Hmmm?

Did you just move to Phoenix? Or are you looking for a new stylist?

Finding a new salon and stylist can be overwhelming, intimidating and just plain stressful! How do you know what to look for when searching for a new stylist or just a new salon overall? Well, I’m going to give you a few tips on how to choose the right salon that works best for you and how to narrow down your options.

The first step to finding the right stylist for you is to decide on the look you are going for — whether it be short hair, a long layered cut or a Balayage. The more specific you can be with your wants and needs out of a stylist, the more successful you will be in finding the right fit.

Once you’ve decided on the look, start Googling. I highly suggest that you read reviews on Yelp.com to help you make a short list of possibilities. Yelp is, of course, a well-known resource for experience-based reviews by just regular people.

When reading the reviews, be sure to keep your specific wants in mind. For example, a client who is happy with her short haircut might be the key to your finding the best stylist to give you that pixie cut you’ve always wanted. Or, if the reviews are filled with various praises for all different styles, you’ll know you’re in good hands if you’re the kind of person who likes to mix it up.

Okay, so you’ve got your style and you’ve got a list of 3-5 places. Now it’s time to put in a call and ask if they provide free consultations. We certainly provide this service and we believe that most salons that are worth scouting do, too. It’s a critical part of the stylist-client relationship! This practical stranger will be responsible for making you look your very best and that’s a big deal! I always recommend booking a consultation only because it gives you, the client, an opportunity to visit the salon and meet with your stylist to make sure it’s the right fit for you without any commitments.

Of course, we’d love it if this process led you to choosing us, The Root Salon, but as ethical hair stylists, the most important thing to us is that you find the right fit! Please consider booking yourself a complimentary consultation at The Root Salon if you’re on the hunt and see if our salon feels right to you. We’d love to have you!
