Online dating…everyone’s doing it. Or so they say. “They” being friends, relatives, clients, coworkers…it seems like almost everyone knows someone who is or has been in a serious relationship started through online dating. The worst part is they think it’s their job to convince you that you should waste your time online as well!

Sure, some have had their success. And while we all sit back and ooooh and aaaah over how “lucky” they are and wonder (silently to ourselves, of course) if there might possibly be someone out there for lil’ old me on the interweb, many have not been so prosperous. I would definitely argue that there are more online dating horror stories than fairy tales of how Tom and Sally instantly knew they were each others’ person when they both ordered their favorite dish of Chicken Alfredo at Oregano’s…or something like that.

Between the risk of completely getting catfished (which if you aren’t up to speed, means having your online date show up and closer resemble the Hunchback of Notre Dame than the Chris Hemsworth look alike you were talking to online) and the thought of spending an extended amount of time with someone who has the personality of a dead fish, I find it quite difficult to waste my Saturday evening casting my line into the online dating pools of Plenty of Fish (see what I did there?), Bumble, Tinder, Farmers Only, Black People Meet, White People Meet, LDS Singles, Christian Mingle, Geek 2 Geek, Furry Mate, or whatever the hell you may be into.

Call me old school, but I prefer more of an organic introduction. You know, friends of friends, our dogs falling in love (humping each other) at the dog park, walking around the corner at the grocery store and bumping into them while simultaneously spilling hot Starbucks down their shirt, cheesy sh*t like that.

I can’t say I’ve never dabbled in the online dating world, however, based on my few experiences I don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon. I’ll save those stories for another time, but for now I’m perfectly content with Chelsea Handler with a bottle of wine occupying my Saturday night!
