When you walk into The Root Salon, you’ll probably notice the women vastly outnumber the men.
As a representative of the gender minority at our salon, I feel it’s my duty to tell the real truth and dispel some misconceptions.
Beauty salons only have female stylists – FALSE! I’m living proof of that. Women aren’t the only ones who have a passion for the artistry and beauty that this profession allows. In fact, when you think of famous artists, fashion designers, and hair stylists (ahem, Vidal Sassoon), many men are well known for their incredible work.
You can’t get a good men’s haircut at a beauty salon – FALSE! Not only does The Root Salon welcome male stylists (me), but we are also sure that all of our team is well trained with men’s haircuts. Sure, women still overpower the clientele here at the salon but don’t let that fool you, these girls know their way around a man’s head of hair.
A barber shop is a better place for a man to go – FALSE! People often associate beauty salons with women and barber shops with men’s cuts. As this is something that used to be true, hair salons have upped their game and are now more versatile in men’s hair cutting. The added advantage is that because the stylists are also trained in color and color correction, we have broader knowledge about the overall health of the scalp and hair which is just as important for men.
