Livin’ it up in Vegas!
The Root Salon Team was on the road again!
Usually in the winter, we are posting about our annual trip to New Orleans to accept our award from Salon Today 200. By the way, this year is our FIFTH year to be honored!
But this year, some of our senior team members opted to swap out one “sinful city” for another. Instead of a trip to NOLA, off we went to Redken Symposium 2015 held in Las Vegas, Nevada!
Redken is one of the major manufacturers when it comes to American professional hair care and hair color. We are not “American style” colorists by culture but the company makes a few key products that our Italian color company just can’t match. And Redken is world renowned for their superior education regardless of brand. A seasoned colorist should be able to translate color formulation regardless of the manufacturer and apply it to the product they use. So, giving that we are some of the best colorists in Phoenix, we decided this would be the “ big event” we would attend this year.
And we mean big. Over 10,000 professional stylists were in attendance!
The opening ceremonies were breathtaking, featuring artists form all over the world and over 200 models sporting over-the-top costuming, make-up, and (duh) HAIR, HAIR, HAIR. This year the entire event has gone completely digital using apps that allowed the audience to interact in real time via all social media platforms. Attendees were glued to the jumbo-trons to see if their submitted team photos, tweets and posts were making to the big screen.
It was so emotional to read tweets describing how hairdressing careers have changed people lives. I sat there with huge tears in my eyes as I tweeted about my life-long transition from being a 19-year-old homeless, pregnant girl that just wanted a good job in a great salon to one of the city’s most celebrated salon owners.

Redken didn’t hold back.
We attended six classes in two days. Topics we studied ranged from cutting and styling curly hair to corrective hair coloring (a Root Salon specialty). Our educators were talented and highly knowledgeable. Since hair dressing is an art form, it is very inspiring to observe another artist’s philosophy on solving challenges we might face in our own salon every day. It is quite exciting to bring fresh formulas, trendy new techniques and state of the art new practices back into our salon to share. It’s events like these that ensure our customers can benefit from a salon team that stays educated and on point with the latest trends.

The bond of travel.
The education is huge for us but what we really love is the social bonding with other team members when we travel together. After soaking up so many new ideas, we get to elevate our learning experience by reflecting together over a nice meal.
It was an energizing few days and we all returned home exhausted! But we’re so excited to be back home to share our experience with friends, co-workers, and our treasured clients.
For the next few months we will begin to apply our newly-learned information to enhance our guest’s experiences in the salon.
