Laurie’s Home: The Root Salon

laurieI’m finally home!

I have been working in the hair industry for over 10 years. I started in a small studio as an assistant and fell I love with the salon process.

Within a few short years, I headed to beauty school to get licensed and ventured out to Scottsdale where I landed a salon job. Then I had my first real adventure…motherhood! I always knew I wanted to be a career mom, I just never knew the challenges that came with that. The initial shock was just coming back from maternity leave. Taking my first born to a strange new place (daycare) and getting back to the grind of long hours seemed impossible to imagine!

But within the first two weeks, my new mom anxieties were eased as I remembered why I love doing hair. It was so much fun to chat with clients with an all new subject to gossip about. Being with a sleeping newborn for over 18 hours a day can really make a person long for adult talk. It was great to have so many people glad to see my smiling face and express their gratitude to have my “magic hands” back for their long missed head massages.

Styling hair is so much more than styling hair. The love and passion you put into it is the best part. Seeing women walk in with bed-head messy hair and walk out beaming with pride for their younger, shiny, bouncing hair was my goal everyday I came to work.

But after some time, I started to lack something at my salon. I stopped growing as a stylist and longed for my best friends, who were all working together at a different salon (guess which one…).

The Root Salon was just the answer I was looking for! Leaving Scottsdale and come here was one of the hardest but very rewarding things I have done in my adult life. Since my arrival, I have grown more with my friends by my side than in the eight years prior. We are all involved in furthering our education for the most up to date hair color and cuts. I have taken trips to other successful salons around the country for classes and seminars. I have more loyal clients and the 5 minute ride home is the greatest thing I could have asked for.

I am now becoming the career mom I always wanted to be!

Thanks to my family and friends here at The Root Salon, the juggle between motherhood and career is not intimidating. Instead, I see it as a chance for me to work harder and become even more successful!
