Should you bring in a picture to your next hair appointment?

Ohmygod, YES!

Photos, magazine pictures, website images, scrapbooks, and Pinterest are all enthusiastically embraced here at The Root Salon.

Truly, a photograph is the best way to let your stylist know what you want. Showing a picture quickly breaks the language barrier and clarifies your interpretation of “red” vs. “gold” or “shaggy” vs. “piece-y”. With a photo, no one has to be a mind-reader and we can quickly get on the same page.

We love pictures of famous people because it gives us a quick insight into your personality. We all tend to be attracted to others who display our own qualities. So if you bring me a photo of today’s sex symbol, I’m willing to bet you want a cut that can be styled into something tousled and sexy. But if you walk in the doors with a picture of Diane Keaton, I’ll see you as a more polished and sophisticated kind of gal.

You get my drift.

Just some words of caution when using celebrities to set the expectation: Unfortunately, I can’t give you the face, body, or youth of a celebrity — you’ll have to consult other beauty professionals for that!

It’s also important to note that we use all the tools at our disposal to get you as close as we can to your desired celebrity look…but there might be limitations. If you’re naturally curly and you want a straight look every single day. we’ll teach you how to style it but will also make sure a version of the cut looks good on your curly days.

And remember, a look in a magazine that seems easy on the page, might take a lot of effort. So it’s important that we have a chat about your hair habits, time for styling, and your hair’s natural color or texture.

Okay, so enough with writing about this topic. Come on in and let’s talk about it!
