When I begin a consultation I ask my clients if…
– They’re happy with their hair
– If I had a magic wand and could do ANYTHING what that would be
– They have ever colored their hair before (I get the hair history)

I do this so that I can make sure the client and I have the same picture of the finished result in our mind’s eye before we begin.  Here’s an example: I have plenty of clients who want the color “honey.”  Honey to me is gold with lots of shine and not too much white blonde in it.  But it might be something different to you. Once, a client asked me for honey and showed me Pam Anderson.

Luckily with things like Pinterest or a good old fashioned iPhone, we can eliminate a lot of ambiguity about what the right color is for you. Nailing this down is not just important for blondes. Reds and Browns apply too.  After all – one girl’s chestnut is another girl’s espresso dark brown.

Its always a good idea to do your homework ahead of time.  But if you were too busy, or your 2 year old tossed your iPhone in the toilet (again) we have iPads available at every station to help you in a pinch.

Better still, the Root has over 100 Pinterest boards set up with the latest pics of the hottest styles as well as some old classics.  My point is, we have some pretty good resources for you here, folks.

Here’s another example of how technology is changing the consulting game:  A client recently wanted Adele’s new cut from her “hello” video.  The problem was, she didn’t know she was talking about Adele’s haircut in her latest video, because she hadn’t SEEN the video.  I was pretty sure I knew the look my client was describing so, I grabbed an iPad, pulled Adele’s “Hello” up on youtube and paused right at the perfect shot of the diva’s hair and NAILED IT!

Thanks Adele!

Remember to use your smart phones or tablets, people! That way you can digitally scrapbook your perfect look any time, or anywhere. We love to see what draws your eye, because it helps us understand who you are and what your overall aesthetic might be.  It’s important to keep in mind that we all have different hair, so you may not always leave the salon looking exactly like that photo of Heidi Klum or Mila Kunis you brought in. But, with a good consultation and the help of  some solid tech,  your locks will be the perfect version of your favorite look for your hair, which is better than any picture in my opinion, because it’s YOU.
