I kid you not, this is the best photo of me from the night, snapped by the groom’s 7-year-old nephew. After all that glam, I’m still just a fool. In heels. (I’m the one on the left.)

We promise, this isn’t a shameful plug of our blog. Here’s a real story showing the benefit of reading these blogs. All of them.

My name is Lilia and I’m the editor of our blog, The Root Word. Since starting several years ago, we’ve achieved an archive of over 400 pieces. And, as the editor, I’ve read every single one.

In doing so, I’ve amassed a pretty robust mental library of beauty skills that, as a stay-at-home-mom and outdoor travel book author, I use almost daily!

Okay, okay, sarcasm aside, the twice-weekly tips, how-to’s, and trend advice really saved me a few weeks ago when I attended a black tie wedding in Maui. I initially felt I was waaaay out of my league as I imagined myself celebrating at an incredible resort with the other guests (who were all Manhattan Wall Street executives decked out in tuxedos, btw). Thankfully, my nerves were quickly soothed as I started making plans to put my look together.

As I thought about what to wear, how to style my own hair, apply formal make-up, and all the details that I had to manage so far away from my favorite salon (eeeek!), I realized I was easily finding solutions by remembering what I’ve learned from this blog, written by the beauty experts at The Root Salon.

I knew that to keep my updo from falling, I needed to start with a very decent session of back-combing. And as I pinned my hair, I was sure to spray each bobby pin with hairspray so they stayed put. I knew exactly how much eyebrow pencil to add and what shape to create for my brows without overdoing it. I expertly created a subtle cat-eye liner and I successfully applied bronzer — a first for me! I even remembered to allow my eyelashes extra time to dry before adding mascara in Maui’s humid climate.

Those are just a few examples but, trust me, without my stored knowledge from reading every word of this blog, I would have felt so lost!

So, your hot tip for this week is to keep doing what you’re doing. Read our blog. Just like me, you’ll be very grateful someday!
