Lilia

I may be an introverted writer but I’ve been told I know how to “bring it”. Especially when a car photo is involved.

When it comes to style, the in-house team at The Root Salon definitely take the cake. After all, style is the root word of their job title: stylist. But The Root Salon team also has a writer on board (me) who has spent every summer of her not-that-young-anymore life in the Phoenix heat.

Here’s my two cents on staying cute even in the hot, sweaty, summer months.

What are your top 5 favorite items of clothing, shoes, or accessories in your closet right now?

A black and white short shift dress,  a pair of black heels with a white flower print on the toe, black perfect-fitting skinny jeans from H&M, a whole gaggle of layering tank tops, and my hiking shoes of course!

What’s a hot-weather look (hair or clothing) that you tried out this summer?

I went for the top knot a couple times but the side braid dominated my summer ‘do.

What’s a fashion faux-pas you see every summer (and wish you’d never see again)?

The kind of short shorts on girls that show too much. 99.9% of the women’s shorts I see in the summer accentuate the wrong things. It gets kinda gross people, so please start using better judgement.

Which celebrity or designer is your summer style inspiration?

No celebrity or designer for me. But I’ve embraced the basics this summer. Solid colored denim pants with a straight or skinny cut, a couple layered tank tops, flats, and a cardigan or blazer. I add a chunky accessory and side braid (or top knot) for just the right amount of flair. It sounds like a lot of clothing for the summer but I’m usually freezing from May through October — people get too aggressive with the a/c thermostat. Sigh.

What’s a fashion tip or trick you rely on to stay cute even when its 115 degrees out?

I minimize the make-up. Just a little cover up in problem areas, a splash of blush and mascara are all I need. This way, when (not if) I get flushed and sweaty, I don’t have to worry about my make-up melting off my face.

Summer is almost over–oh, who are we kidding? We’ll be sweating it out until November. In the meantime, take  look at what the rest of the team had to say about their summer fashion. Or check out the team survey on summer go-to hairstyles.
