Do not fear the shears!

Spring is in the air and, chances are, all winter you’ve been avoiding getting a haircut like the black plague. But, is that actually the best route to take?

Well, you may be making your hair look worse! Did you know that trimming your hair on a regular basis won’t stop it from growing? Nope. On the contrary, it’ll look healthier and encourage growth! But, as you try to decide whether or not a new look for spring is in the cards for you, let’s consider a few things that may be pointing you to a haircut.

First and foremost, the number one sign that you’re in need of a haircut is to take a look at your ends. Do they appear frayed? Are they dry and brittle? Are the ends of your tresses starting to split? If your answer is, “yes”, it’s time to get in for a haircut ASAP!

Often times, no matter what you try, your hair just won’t go your way. Maybe your layers have grown out too far. Can you even see out of the front of your hair? When was the last time your bangs were trimmed?

What about your styling routine? Does it still work for you? These are all good indications of a need for a fresh cut. Listen to your hair. It is trying to tell you something.

Do you color treat your hair? You know, highlights, grey coverage or lighten it from your natural color? If you are experiencing re-growth with your color treated hair then not only do you need to see your colorist to get a “spring fresh” color, but chances are a cut is at hand too.

Time to take a good look in the mirror now. Are your sides even? Your hair does not always grow at an identical speed all over your head so a close look in the mirror will be a good indicator that a date with a set of shears is in the near future.

Do you even remember your last hair cut appointment? Here at The Root Salon, we advise our guests to try and schedule regular trims at least every 6-8 weeks. So, if trying to remember your last haircut leaves you feeling a bit foggy, keep in mind that getting regular hair cuts will keep your ends nice and healthy.

And, let’s be honest here ladies, we get bored! Do you get dressed in the morning and do your hair the same way every day? Are you still sporting a look you had 20 years ago? How boring! This spring, why not try out a whole new cut and color? I advise my guests to book a complimentary consultation to take a half hour with me to look at pictures in magazines and on Pinterest. I show them color swatches and discuss the time and financial commitments of new looks in cut and color. The best way to make the decision you are going to love is with the help of your trusted professional.

So, get that appointment booked (you can register and book online) and try out something new for spring. It could be a great start to the New Year.
