Lets face it, summer is here and it is hot outside!

Being a stylist in Phoenix brings its own challenges when temperatures soar into the 100s. Suddenly, our clients’ bangs (that were such a huge hit in January) feel heavy and suffocating. And many of our clients ask for alternatives to a ponytail to get their locks off their necks.

Here’s just a handful of ideas to stay cool and trendy through the sweaty months.

Leave the blow dryer in your drawer. After jumping out of the shower, go for a wet style. Especially if you have a natural wave and you expect a casual day, embracing a beach-y or pool-side look can be chic, sexy, and provide some evap cooling.

Braiding is still very in. And, lucky for us, the messy braid is very popular. Before braiding, comb your hair, apply a leave-in conditioner, a styling aid (for just the right amount of hold), and part the hair to one side. Then make a loose braid over your shoulder. It’s easy and breathable.

Speaking of side parts, try working  one into your bangs for a side-swept look. This is a popular trend that keeps your forehead cool and prevents your bangs from getting limp in the middle of a hot day.

And don’t forget the still-popular top knot style (click here for step-by-step instructions). We have a feeling that no matter what happens in other cities, the top knot will have another successful summer in Phoenix. You just can’t beat the cooling affect of keeping all your hair in an up-do that is way up!

These are just a few hints. Keep reading our blog this summer for more trends!
