Want a dramatic change? We’d like for you to consider a few things first…

The new year is on its way and with it, requests from our clients for new looks!

We love it when a client comes in and is ready for a big change. Whether it’s a dramatic new cut, a total color change, or hot pink bangs, we see it as a fun opportunity to use our expertise and create some excitement in a client’s life!

But before we take the plunge with your new look, we like to make sure you are 100% positive that you’re ready. Here are a few tricks we’ve picked up along the way to make sure our clients are exhilarated by their big change and not traumatized.

Step One: Bring a picture…but use it wisely

We love having magazine cut-outs or online photos for reference. But these always run the risk of creating unrealistic expectations. When you find a photo of a celeb or model sporting a gorgeous mane, be sure to think about the hair on your beautiful face. Do you have a similar face shape? Similar natural skin coloring? Will this work with your body’s proportions?  These will definitely factor in to your post-appointment happiness level.

Step Two: Think about the daily styling effort

We make sure to have a detailed conversation with you about what specific styling efforts it took to achieve the look in the photo. With a new cut comes a different styling routine that might take more time in your morning. And for some looks, the end result may be difficult to pull off without the assistance of a stylist. It helps to make these considerations before you come in but we will also initiate the conversation to double check.

Step Three: Remember your hair’s health

Especially when it comes to a dramatic color change, we are hyper-vigilant about proceeding ethically (in other words, we will not trash the health of your hair). This may mean that a transition in color requires several appointments with some “in-between” stages. We will keep your hair healthy as long as you can have the patience!

Step Four: Reconsider

Now, we don’t mean you have to bail on the whole idea (no way!). But just to be absolutely sure you’re ready, start over with your thought process and be honest with yourself: Will this cut or color look good on my face? Will I realistically have time to style this look every single day? If necessary, can I have the patience to make this change in stages? Do pink bangs fit in with my lifestyle, workplace, and social activities?

If you answer with a resounding, “Heck YEAH!” to all those questions, you’ve come to the right place!
