This day (and the month of June) we like to go all out at The Root to show our support for our LBGT+ community. We are decorating the salon, wearing our Pride colors and planning some special treats here, as well.
Why is this day so important? During Pride, different marches and collective events are organized to make the fight for equality and dignity of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people visible. This day commemorates the riots that occurred in 1969 in Stonewall, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City.
Known as the Stonewall Revolt, it was the start of a series of spontaneous protests. This day was marked as one of the first times in the history of the country in which the community of non-normative people fought against the oppressive system, acting as a catalyst for the movement for the rights of the LGTB + community in other countries.
Tomorrow we will feature decor and treats from locally, LGBT+ owned businesses. During the month of June we make a special effort to shop LBGT+ owned businesses and show our support.
Additionally we take “pride” in creating a working environment that is inclusive. We recognize that identities are complex. We celebrate openness daily. We strive to create a work community that cultivates compassion and make ally ship visible. On our team, it is the individual that matters.
Follow our social media tomorrow to join in on the fun or stop by yourself for a treat or complimentary service and samples. We look forward to sharing this important message of support with you all in order to spread love and acceptance in our small space in the world and beyond!
