The one and only Jillian proudly shows off her license to make life beautiful!

Hello, world! My name is Jillian Jorgensen and I’m a new member of The Root Salon team.

My story starts in Nebraska where I was born and raised. My “roots” are definitely there and I consider myself to be a true Nebraskan in that we’re all just a bunch of downright good people. Nebraskans are known for being hard working, down to earth, humble, honest, and the kind of people that would give their shirt off their back to a complete stranger. That’s just how we’re raised, and I consider myself to be no exception to that standard.
Now I’m a believer in things happening for a reason (sort of a destiny mentality if you will) and that’s where this story gets interesting.

I had a clear vision when I had graduated high school: I wanted to move on from my nice, sheltered upbringing in the good ole Cornhusker State and venture out into the “big city” life. I also wanted to be a hairdresser. It seemed fun, wild, beautiful and any other descriptive word one could think of for such an amazing, artistic way of life. My parents weren’t exactly keen on the idea of their youngest daughter packing up and moving to AZ for a career in hair so ASU it was! I followed a strong family tradition and studied nursing.

I finished 3 hard years and achieved an impressive GPA but right at the end of my undergrad, I finally faced reality: I felt uninspired. I didn’t apply to the college of nursing because it just didn’t feel right.
Here I was. 21 years old without a clue of what I wanted to do next. Because I love people, I joined the restaurant industry, worked my way up, and still work a few shifts at Sushi Brokers to this day. I’ve loved my time working in restaurants but I’ve always felt a nagging feeling that something was missing in my life.

Finally, this feeling went from nagging to overwhelming. It was time to make a change and follow my passion and inspirations: Beauty, fashion, and people! The three things I love most in the world!

I knew it was time for me to go back to square one and to pursue an education in hairdressing. So I did it!

At 29 years old, I was just about the oldest student enrolled at the Toni and Guy Academy Scottsdale. That didn’t phase me one bit. I was jazzed every day I walked through those doors! Everything came together for me. This is where I belonged all along. I had found my niche and I was excited!

Look at that hard-working Nebraska girl!

Look at that hard-working Nebraska girl!

I graduated and knew exactly where I wanted to work: The Root Salon. I first walked through The Root Salon doors years prior at a Client Appreciation event hosted at their beautiful salon. As I cruised through the space filled with wine, jewelry, fashionable clients, and music by a local DJ, I was beyond impressed. This was a special group of people.

Once I graduated, there was nothing left for me to do other than apply to The Root Salon. I remember being so nervous, feeling like the first day of high school all over again! Here I was, a 29 year old girl, from Nebraska applying to the coolest salon she had ever seen, fresh out of school. I thought to myself, “NO WAY Jillian?!” But I gave it a shot.

Now here I am, telling you my long, drawn out story about me and how I wound up here at the Root Salon. I’m so thrilled to be here and happy to have learned this most important lesson: Hard work and following your passions should never be discounted!!!
