A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend a balayage certification class in California. Although I had already felt confident in the technique, I was wanting to really sharpen up my application process, and gain a greater understanding of the what and why of this increasingly popular color application
So what is Balayage?
Balayage is a french word that means to sweep or paint. So when you apply the term to hair color, it is a highlighting technique that is hand-painted. It Creates a softly graduated, natural-looking effect. Balayage is very often processed in open air, but can also be isolated with plastic wrap.
Why Balayage?
Balayage is a fabulous way to add dimension to hair and it is very low maintenance. Balayage often blends better at the root than a traditional foil. It is ideal for the client who just wants their hair to be soft and sun kissed. It is also great for adding dimension into your typical one process hair color.
Balayage works surprisingly well on most hair types. You’re stylist will be able to tell you if Balayage is the best route for you and your hair type.
