You may be in love with a trendy new haircut seen on celebrities. But when it comes down to finding the best cut for you, there’s one determining factor that trumps any celebrity ‘do.
Your face shape.
The shape of your face is the most powerful visual element at play when anticipating whether a cut will work or not.
So how many face shapes are there, you ask? This charming illustration taken from a beauty book ca. 1945 explains the basics.

When it comes down to it, the oval face shape is considered the “ideal” because it is the most versatile with any cut. Oval faces are also conventionally considered the most beautiful. So, when choosing a new cut, it’s best to assess your face shape then select a cut and style that will create the illusion of an oval face shape for you. This goes for dudes, too.
Of course, your best bet is to talk to a professional (like me) and discuss different options for creating that ideal shape!
