Each year, our family throws a Holiday Kickoff Party during one of the first weekends of December and it’s become one of our favorite holiday traditions!
Now, this isn’t a party with guests. It’s a party that happens at home with just the family members who live in the house together. We blast Holiday music (our own playlist we created with our favorites that we add to each season), clean the house, decorate, put up the lights outside, and make a batch of cookies!
This year, I woke up earlier than everyone else and started cooking my favorite thing: an aromatic simmering pot of oranges, cloves, and cinnamon that fills the house with a beautiful winter-y smell. Our family celebrates Christmas so I also set out some colored paper and craft supplies for my daughter and when she woke up, we made a paper chain of loops that countdown to Christmas. She gets to rip a chain link each day as we get closer to Christmas morning!
By the end of the day, our house had its lights up and we were all singing holiday tunes together as we baked a batch of gingerbread cookies.
(Okay, I know it sounds over the top but I promise I’m not making this up and it wasn’t at all saccharin; we were totally into the moment!)
It was so nice to pause and just be together working on different projects to get us all in the holiday spirit. If you haven’t yet, give your family an at-home kickoff celebration!
