Myth: Lemon juice is a great way to lighten my hair.

Lemon juice is citric acid and is sadly one of the most common home hair lighteners. However, trying to save money by applying lemon juice to your hair and lying out in the sun can result in some pretty dry locks.
As lemon-juiced hair heats up in the sunshine, the acid opens the hair cuticle and sucks out your hair’s natural pigment. This leaves the result of lighter looking color.
So even though it does lighten, we DO NOT recommend the use of lemon juice to lighten your hair. You will almost always end up with brassy, dry and tangled hair. Even after washing and conditioning you can end up with seriously distressed hair that won’t be anywhere near the color you were looking for.
Instead, we suggest a visit to one of our fantastic colorists to get the color you want. Then we recommend you protect your perfect color by wearing a great hat in the sun and applying loads of our highly moisturizing conditioners to protect your summer blonde look.
