I get a fair share of clients asking about or requesting a razor cut. But just because someone’s best gal pal got a fresh razor cut yesterday from her stylist (here at The Root Salon, obviously) does that mean it’s right for everyone?
In most cases, probably not.
Don’t get me wrong – the razor is a fantastic tool that can be used in a multitude of different ways. From breaking up a heavy weight line to creating a beautiful fringe to personalized face framing. The razor removes bulk and weight within the hair allowing it to be more moveable and light.
That said, who has the appropriate hair texture for a razor cut? Could it be you?
Let’s ask a couple questions to see if you’re a good candidate. Is your hair fine? Are you curly? Do you like straight, long locks? Are you wanting a short pixie with a wild hairline down the nape?
Keep in mind that the razor makes straight hair appear wavy and makes wavy hair curly. Then curly hair overly curly and overly curly hair into fuzz!
If your hair is too fine, it could only make the perimeter or ends of your hair transparent and wispy. Maybe consider asking your stylist to use the blade just a little in the crown or maybe a little over the ears for a gentle introduction to the razor. But demanding an entire razor cut to the wrong stylist can get you into a heap of trouble! You will feel scalped if they’re not experienced.
These are all factors we need to consider when asking to be signed up to be sliced and diced with the razor. I say “we” because you and your Root Salon stylist will work it out. We guarantee that no client will feel scalped in our hands!
We are experienced and honest with our clients. If you don’t have the appropriate texture then we simply won’t do it. If you do, great! We will give you an expert razor cut that looks the way it’s intended to. Just leave it up to our talented team to help you decide what’s best for you. Scrapbook and save pictures of looks the draw your eye then be prepared to talk a bit with your stylist as to the reasons why you want a razor cut.
