Let’s face it, summer is here!
Now that we are basking in the summertime sunshine, we seem to change a lot about our appearance. Shorts get shorter, hair gets lighter, so why shouldn’t we change our makeup regimen too?
Well that’s just it, we should.
Summer makeup should be light and fresh– starting with the skin. Sure, very few of us have flawless skin that we love to show off but there are ways to enhance it without piling on loads of makeup.
First and foremost, hydrate! Drinking tons of water and using a good moisturizer are crucial to having a nice complexion (even if you have oily skin). If you have dry skin, get a moisturizer that’s heavy and emollient. If you have oily skin, use something with a gel or light creamy texture so you don’t feel greasy.
To perfect your summertime complexion, switch to a lightweight foundation. All you need is enough to even out the skin. (A few of my favorites are “Face and Body” liquid foundation from MAC Cosmetics and “Vitalumiere Aqua” liquid foundation from Chanel.) After lightly applying your foundation, you can dab a hint of concealer anywhere else that you feel needs a little extra love. If you like, you can do a light dusting of translucent powder to extend the wearablilty and eliminate excess shine.
Now that you have a flawless complexion, it’s time for some color! For cheeks, pop a hint of pink, peach, or coral right on the top of your apples and brush it up towards the top of your ear. To add a bit of dimension, wisp some bronzer around the perimeter of your face, hairline, and through the hollows of your cheeks. For lips, go with a freshly bitten look by adding a touch of gloss or lipstick that’s a hint brighter than your own natural lip shade.
Finally for eyes, you want to keep it fun and bright! Highlight the inner corner of your eyes and throw on a coat of defining mascara- top and bottom. Switch up your harsh black eyeliner to a dark bronze or plum color for that summery twist, and there you have it!
Remember, summertime makeup should reflect the season. Light and bright is your new motto! Embrace these few simple tips and tricks, and you’ll be set.
