It’s Valentine’s Day! We thought it would be a great day to share a heartfelt insight with our readers here on The Root Word Blog. Read on for a display of passion — passion for what we do that doesn’t always have to do with hair.
We go the extra mile here at The Root Salon to really get to know our clients. After all, sometimes our relationships with our guests can span over 20 or 30 years. We LOVE to talk to you not just about your hair but we sincerely want to know about your family, what you do for a living, your hobbies and aspirations. During our relationship with you we will most likely hear about a new romance, help plan your (or your daughter’s wedding), talk to you about coloring your hair during pregnancy and even give your child their first haircut.
You may remember a genuine blog entry by our own Roxanne called “Life’s Work”. Well, she expressed it so perfectly and it’s truly how we all feel here. Caring about the important milestones and events in your life goes hand in hand with being your trusted stylist. We know your secrets and dreams…and we are definitely here to listen. Sometimes it is the difficult part of our job description. Often, we are here for you as you experience disappointments and tragedy. This aspect of our profession causes emotional bonds that are unique to our industry and our personal lives.
Just last week the salon team had a very difficult day. We had the odd circumstance of getting two long-standing customers ready to attend their husband’s funerals on the same day. Both ladies are like family members to our team. One even brings us lunch at every hair appointment. Both husbands’ deaths were unexpected. Our team leader, Lauren, gathered us together at the start of the day and reminded the team of our important role is these women’s lives. We rallied around them, we listened, we hugged, and we cried. Each woman was beyond grateful for our supportive group and for our genuine tender-loving-care. At the end of the day we all shared a sense of emotional exhaustion with a bit of pride for doing what we do well.
The same can be said about the countless times we prepare a bride to look her most beautiful for her spacial day or the when we primp girls for their first prom. It is exhilarating and important…and we love it!
So just know that when you step into our space, you are among a group of people who we value tremendously. Because we consider it our great privilege to take care of you through good times and bad.
At The Root Salon we love what we do. We are passionate about our work and we promise you we put our heart into it every single day.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
