Clean me! (But do it the right way.)

So you have jumped out there and spent good money on a great boar bristle or ceramic hair brush that your stylist recommended. It is a few months old and it is starting to look a little bit grungy. What should you do?

First, get a fine tooth comb and gently “scrape” run it through the bristles of your brush to get all of the loose hair out of it.

If you have a boar bristle brush or a wooden brush (like Spornette), then consider the job done! DO NOT wash it or get it wet. Not only will the water warp the wood, but if you use soap on the natural bristles, it will strip away the natural oils. You WANT these oils on the bristles because they help to smooth, nourish, and shine your hair every time you use your brush.

If you have a brush that is plastic (like a Denman) or ceramic (like a Bio-Ionic) then it is okay to wash and dry your brush using your favorite sulfate-free shampoo.

Just make sure that you let your brushes completely dry before you use them to style or brush your hair. Standing your brush up in a drinking glass will also help prevent your bristles from drying crunched or crimped. Happy brushing!

I use wooden brush and wash it twice a week with soap water. Didn’t know that it takes away natural oil. Thanks for the little tip. One more thing. My hair are oily so the brush gets greasy after couple of days. so if not soap water then how am I supposed to clean it?
