Taking care of your skin has so many benefits and it does not have to be a complicated process! I know it can be overwhelming to begin a skincare regimen because of the abundance of creams, cleansers, serums, etc. Let’s start with the basics.
If you notice flakiness, tightness in your skin, you may have dry skin and will want products that are targeted towards hydration. Don’t be scared to try oils either! Your skin will soak it up and be happier for it. When cleansing your skin, you want to make sure you aren’t stripping all the moisture from your skin so gentle cleansers are best. Hydration is key to ensuring the elasticity of the skin which will keep your skin smooth and soft as you age!
If you find that throughout the day you are needing to blot your face because it’s got so much oil and build-up, you might have oily skin! For oily skin types, you want to look toward cleansing products and water based hydration. Your skin produces plenty of oil, so you want to avoid any oil-based products as they can cause build up. Fun fact, people with oily skin types tend to stay looking youthful since their skin never experiences dryness!
Combination skin means that you have areas that experience oiliness and dryness. Usually oil will appear around the nose, chin, and forehead while everything else experiences dryness. For combination skin, you want to make sure you cleanse the oily zones of your face really well, then follow up with a nice water-based gel moisturizer that way it’s still moisturizing but not heavy enough to cause buildup in your troubled areas.
I absolutely recommend seeing a dermatologist or esthetician to get a complete personalized breakdown of your skin & what works best for it.
