Okay, so this is something every client asks: How often should I wash my hair?
There’s no simple answer here because every person/hair/skin/lifestyle is different. But, based on my research and knowledge, here are some general guidelines…
If you are going more than three days without washing your hair, you must wash it twice. The first shampoo will remove excess build up and the second will treat the hair. It’s also important how you wash your hair. Leaving the shampoo on your roots for three minutes after lightly massaging it will allow it to cleanse the hair without irritating the scalp. Doing this will help prevent dandruff, too. After your three minutes, don’t wash your ends. You should just allow the shampoo to rinse through the ends. This way, you don’t dry your ends out. Then you apply your conditioner/mask from mid-shaft to ends. For those who must wash everyday because of daily workout, remember to use a Co(conditioning)-Wash every other time.
If you have fine hair, three times a week is sufficient. Make sure to use a Volumizing Shampoo with a lightweight conditioner mid-shaft to ends.
If you have thick, straight hair, 2-3 times a week is ideal. You would want to use a Smoothing Shampoo w/Keratin or Argan Oil. However, if it’s thick and dry it should be washed two times a week with Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner.
If you have curly hair, twice a week is good. You’ll want to use a heavy moisturizing shampoo and or Co-Wash for curly hair. To protect the integrity of the curl, stay away from any shampoos that have Sodium Laurel Sulfate. It can corrode the hair follicle and cause strands to fall out.
