We’re back at it with Tips & Tricks Tuesday and this week, we want to know: Are you shampooing your hair properly?
First of all, if you work up a really good lather from a sulfate-free shampoo (like our own Semi Di Lino Illuminating Shampoo from Alfaparf) it’s a good indicator that you’re shampooing properly. Substantial lather proves you’re removing oil and environmental debris from your locks.
Next, make sure you’re shampooing your whole head. Don’t get into that squirt and plop habit some people get into. In other words, squirting a dollop of shampoo in the palm of your hand and plopping it on top of your head, then quickly rinsing it out isn’t going to cut it. Emulsifying the shampoo between your palms and working it in to your scalp, and all around your hairline, massaging the scalp with the balls of your fingers (not your fingernails) ensures that you get your scalp completely clean. You want to rid your scalp of perspiration residue, excess styling product, and oil.
Then it’s time to rinse, rinse, and rinse again. You know how your hair looks shinier after you go to a salon? It’s not just the great blow-dry style you got, it’s because hairdressers like The Root Salon team are trained to “rinse until the cows come home.”
Finally, apply your conditioner to mid-shaft and ends only, working out tangles with your fingers as you go. Rinse thoroughly again, ending with some cold water for extra shine.
