Hooray! Another Root Salon Stylist Questionnaire!
Today, we see what Forest has to say about her style and sources for inspiration. Check it out!
1. What’s your favorite head to toe look you’ve worn in the past 6 months?
I had to opportunity to go to Crested Butte, Colorado in late July. If you’ve never been to this adorable mountain town, go! I had a big birthday party to go to for a family friend and it was going to be at their house in the mountains outside of the town. I decided on a long, flowy tunic top (tan, with a fun diamond print in blues, browns and a russet, reddish tone). Dark skinny jeans, and my tan ankle moto boots with a buckle on the outside. I also wore my staple accessories: two long pendant necklaces and my silver toned Michael Kors watch, Tiffany Venetian Link bracelet, Alex and Ani bracelet and of course my wedding rings.
I cut my hair about a month ago and I’ve been having fun wearing it a little more messy, I curl it with a big curling iron and use paste to separate the curls to add texture. I’m looking to wearing this outfit again once it cools down here in Phoenix more!
2. What’s a head to toe look you can’t wait to try out in the fall and winter season?
I think most of us here in AZ look forward to the cooler months so we can bust out our boots! (Even if it’s only cold enough to wear them for like a month.) Some of us at the salon are going to a big hair show in Las Vegas in January and I know I’m already trying to figure out what to pack. There will be a night while we’re in Vegas that we get to let loose a little bit, so I will probably pack some fun knee high boots and some black leggings and a flowy top. I love to wear big statements earrings with an outfit like this and a ton of bangles! Also, you can never go wrong with a fabulous clutch.
Jewel tones are always in style for the fall and with black boots and leggings, a fun, flirty top in purple or deep blue would look great! Since it is Vegas, I might do something a little more wild with my hair. Either BIG and curly, or in a fun updo of some sort. And because I’ll be with my co-workers I will have someone to make sure the back of my hair looks good!
3. What’s the wildest or most fashion forward look you’ve ever sported?
I’ve loved fashion for a long time. When I was a kid in the eighties I totally rocked the two different colored socks, big bangs and brightly colored elastic waist shorts. I had a couple perms when I was in middle school and high school. (Unfortunately there are some pictures floating around that prove that horrible hairstyle.)
But I would have to say that my wildest fashions happened when I was in my mid-twenties and I was going to clubs every weekend. I wore the super high heeled shoes, brightly colored pants and I even had pink in my hair for a little while. My girlfriends and I would go to Las Vegas a couple times a year and wear our craziest outfits there. There was a time that we all decided to wear wigs when we went out, I wore a chin length bob wig with bangs that was hot pink! We wore tops that showed our pierced belly buttons and that were totally backless, that just tied with a couple strings in the back. I look back now and think, wow! I’m glad that I did that and was comfortable enough in my own skin to wear what I wanted. But I’m definitely not wearing any of those items any time soon!
4. What’s a hair trend that you wish was still in style?
I honestly can’t think of a hairstyle that I wish was in style still. I can, however, think of a few that I’m GLAD are NOT in style still. A few years ago Kate Gosselin (of Jon and Kate Plus 8 fame) cut her hair so that it was short and spikey in the back and longer in the front. From the front you could see the crown area was sticking straight up and the fringe area was flat ironed and down to her lip. I had my own hair about this length at this time, but much cuter, and I would get compared to her all the time!
I am also glad that “The Rachel” is not in style anymore. Although once in a great while we’ll get someone who brings in a picture of Jennifer Aniston with that older style.
5. What’s your #1 source for hair, fashion, and general style inspiration?
I’m always looking for inspiration in InStyle Magazine. I love how they put certain outfits together for specific activities. Most of the time the articles of clothing that they use are out of my price range, but at least I can get an idea of what’s in style. If I’m playing on my iPad while my husband and I are watching TV, I’m usually on Pinterest. I love looking through the women’s fashions pins, if only we could just pick our outfits out of our imaginary closet on Pinterest everyday!
I also have pictures saved from Pinterest in my “hairdo ideas” album that I have on my iPhone. This way when I’m coming into get my hair done I don’t have to search for something I thought I saw somewhere. It’s already saved in a specific place in my phone and I don’t have to open a million different tabs or wait for the wifi to work faster. I also love to bargain shop. Buffalo Exchange is probably one of my favorite places to shop. I’ve been going there to buy or sell clothes since I was in middle school!
