We have a special post today by our Senior Stylist, Forest Urken! Here’s her touching post in which she reflects on her one year anniversary. Happy Anniversary, Forest! We are so happy you joined us!
A little over a year ago, I decided to make one of the biggest changes of my life. I saw this picture on Pinterest and the words behind it really sparked something in me.
I have been doing hair for 16 years, 15 of those years were with the same salon in Scottsdale. I loved the salon I worked at for a long time. It was home and I didn’t know any different.
About six years ago, the atmosphere started to change. I stuck it out for those few years thinking it was going to get better again. It didn’t. I loved the people I worked with and I loved my clientele. But I would come home crying to my husband about what had gone on behind the scenes at work at least once a week.
I saw this picture and finally realized that I needed to be happy about going to work again and I needed to find a more positive work environment.
I knew what would make me happy: a smaller, neighborhood, hip, North Central Phoenix salon. So I did what a lot of our clients do…I looked on Yelp. As most of you know, The Root Salon has a nearly five star review on Yelp and it’s one of the first salons that pops up. I read the reviews carefully and decided to check it out. As soon as I walked in to the Root Salon, I immediately got a good vibe from the place. It was clean, I loved the art on the walls, the decor was totally my taste. I met with the owner and was put at ease right away.
I knew this was where I needed to be.
September 30th marks my one year anniversary with The Root Salon! I have loved every minute of my past year with the team at the salon; they are all so nice and welcoming. I definitely feel as if I have made some wonderful new friends. I enjoy coming to work everyday and seeing what the day will bring me.
It was very hard to make the decision to leave a place that I had been at for nearly half my life, but I am so glad that I had the courage to make the best decision for me and the betterment of my well-being. Sometimes all we need is that final push to get all of our thoughts in motion.
