We all know that a high bun or top knot is a perfect hairstyle for second day (or third day) hair, especially in the Phoenix heat. But what if you get bored of the same old top knot?
First, let’s review how to do a simple top knot:
If your hair is unusually frizzy or curly, you probably flat-ironed and blowdry-straightened your hair on your freshly shampooed day. Now, take advantage of that pre-styling in order to produce a neat, high bun. Coat your strands with a shine serum to fight humidity like Alfaparf’s Semi Di Lino Crystalli Liquidi. Then tightly wind all of your hair, pulling up and back toward the center of the crown of your head. After everything is smoothly pulled away, secure with an elastic, twist the remaining hair as tightly as possible, then wrap it into a tight, neat bun, and secure with bobby pins.
Now for a full top knot:
Want to add some height and drama to your top knot? This is the way to go. Loosely back comb your hair with a brush to add fullness. Pull your hair up and away to a very high pony. Pull the pony through a mesh donut (that you can buy here at The Root Salon). Next, back comb your pony to add fullness and wrap the ends around the donut. Make sure you cover the donut with your hair, so that it’s hidden from view.
