Hi everyone! I’m Gia. I grew up in the small town of Newark, California. I moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 2018 to chase my dreams of being a hairstylist.
Growing up, a lot of my role models were hair stylists. In grade school, I insisted on doing my own hair for school. In high school, I was a cheerleader and played softball. I always styled other cheerleader’s hair before competition or braided my teammates hair before a softball tournament. In class, I’d my time in class watching YouTube hair tutorials then trying different styles on myself or my friends. I chose a different route for college and graduated from Ohlone community college with my AA in criminal justice.
Once I graduated, I didn’t know what step to take next and was burnt out from years of school. I thought long and hard about what would make me happy, and came up with the idea to have a fresh start in Arizona. Shortly after moving, I enrolled at Avalon School of Cosmetology. I graduated in July 2020 and felt like I was right where I needed to be.
I am extremely passionate about curls! Having curly hair myself, I never knew how to style my curls growing up and was always told to straighten my hair. Knowing what I know now, I want to spread my knowledge and help others feel comfortable with the hair on their head. I also love foil work and balyages.
If I’m not at work, i’m probably outside. You can find me road-tripping, hiking, kayaking, or reading on a hammock with a pretty view.
I’m super thankful to be a part of the amazing team at the Root Salon and I’m very excited to learn from everyone. I look forward to meeting all of the salons clients as well. See you soon!
